Internet companies’ prized liability shield law has been consistently thrust into the limelight, both politically and legally, as lawmakers and leaders on both sides of the aisle consider whether it gives social media companies too much leeway.

The law known as Section 230 has provoked the ire of former president Donald Trump, become a hot topic at several congressional hearings and prompted President Biden to call for its revision.
