Britney Spears supporters hold ‘Free Britney’ rally at Lincoln Memorial

A group of Britney Spears supporters held a “Free Britney” rally at the Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday as the singer remains engaged in a fierce court battle over her conservatorship.

Spears last month asked a Los Angeles Superior Court judge to end her 13-year conservatorship, contending that the arrangement is “abusive.”

The singer said she doesn’t “feel like I can live a full life” because of the conservatorship, claiming that it stopped her from getting married and pregnant and forced her to undergo psychiatric evaluations and take psychiatric medicine.

The singer’s father, Jamie Spears, has overseen her conservatorship since 2008. It was established after she faced issues over mental health and substance abuse.

Britney Spears’s longtime attorney in the case resigned last week after the singer came out against him in court, saying the lawyer “told me I should keep it to myself” regarding her complaints with the conservatorship.

A judge ruled Wednesday afternoon that the singer can choose her own attorney for the case going forward.

Protesters were seen at the Lincoln Memorial earlier Wednesday holding signs that read “Free Britney” and “Britney’s not a slave 4 U!”

There were also signs with messages of support for the singer, including “Britney you’re stronger than yesterday!” and “Keep on fighting ‘till the conservatorship ends’.”

Participants at one point began marching with signs at the Memorial, chanting “Hey hey, ho ho, the conservatorship has got to go.”

One supporter brought a cardboard cutout of the singer.

A similar demonstration was held outside a Los Angeles courthouse on Wednesday, where a judge was expected to rule on Spears’s attorney.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who is under investigation over potential sex trafficking violations, was in the crowd and attracted cheers after hauling an insult at Spears’s father.

“There’s a lot that still divides us, but one thing we can all agree on is that Jamie Spears is a dick,” Gaetz said to cheers.

“Britney’s been abused by the media, she’s been abused by a grifter father, and she has been abused by the American justice system,” Gaetz also said.

Gaetz was one of four Republican representatives who penned a letter to Spears last week, inviting her to testify before Congress.

“The United States Congress should hear your story and be inspired to bipartisan action. What happened to you should never happen to any other American. Congress can make things better and you can inform our policy decisions. If you will speak to Congress, we are ready to listen,” the lawmakers wrote.

The Free Britney movement, before the rally, said its mission is to “organize congressional and senatorial legislators for a hearing to better evaluate and make changes to the issues surrounding conservatorship law.”
