Krispy Kreme is upping the doughnut ante in its COVID-19 vaccine push, doubling the number of free sweet treats that vaccinated customers can receive.

The company announced Wednesday that it will give Americans who have gotten at least one vaccination shot two free doughnuts every day as part of a weeklong promotion.

Vaccinated patrons can get an original glazed, along with a heart-shaped doughnut, as part of the company’s “Show Your Heart” campaign, which runs from Monday to Sept. 5.

Krispy Kreme had announced its original doughnut giveaway aimed at boosting vaccination rates back in March, vowing to give a free doughnut away every day through 2021 to anyone showing proof of having received at least one shot.

The North Carolina-based business, which operates more than 350 stores across the U.S., said Wednesday that it’s given away more than 2.5 million doughnuts in the last five months through the effort.

“We all hoped we’d be near the end of this pandemic by now. We’re not. So, please consider getting vaccinated if you’ve not done so already,” Dave Skena, Krispy Kreme’s chief marketing officer, said in a statement. “And then enjoy and share two amazing doughnuts with our heart-felt thanks.”

The sweet incentive comes after the Food and Drug Administration granted the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine full approval on Monday for recipients 16 and older.

About half of the U.S. population — 51.6 percent — is fully vaccinated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
