Friendships in elementary school can be good. Some are great. A few are wonderful. But only one group of friends has the good fortune to have a magical friendship.The closer their friendship becomes, the more magic they will experience. Amazing things will happen just by sticking together through every challenge and every success. A timid Mena Miraj waits for the bus on her first day at Henrietta Lacks elementary school. Once on the bus, we meet Alani Kai. Alani doesn’t like to blend in; she confidently begins chatting with Mena. Kara Couture, the most popular kid in the fourth grade and also the nicest sits with the two girls on the bus. The three become Bus Friends immediately. During a slumber party at Kara’s house, the girls decide to enter a dance competition. They also make friendship bracelets with beads Kara purchased at a local festival. It isn’t long before they notice their beads are powerful. Readers will meet several characters who fill out the fictional town of Denise, Texas nestled in a hill country north of Austin, Texas. There are classmates and teachers, parents and siblings, and the energetic rhyming school bus driver, Juan. Readers will also meet one person that even the characters can’t see.

A fun book to read for kids and adults
Bus Friends Forever was so fun to read. I read it by myself, then I read it with my 14, 13 and 10 year old grand daughters. The characters remind me of my own children and their friends. This is a book that will be read 20 years from now and still be relevant. Things are always Better Together.

    I loved the characters because they seemed like real little fourth grade girls. The storyline was fast moving and not boring. I loved the way the author weaved a little information about each character so that we felt like we knew them. I would highly recommend this book for any young girls, but especially to young African-American girls. I know my nieces who are in the age group of the characters in the story would enjoy it as well. I think Christina Burns accomplished her goal of creating believable characters with just a little magic that only young girls can possess. The art was great and I like that the families were relatable. I loved this story!

    This book is a fun and exciting read for kids and adults. The three characters, Mena, Alani, and Kara, are fun and happy 4th grade girls. Their friendship begins on the bus but it truly grows into something special during their sleepover.

    The representation in this book of girls of different races and backgrounds is so important for kids. This is especially true for kids that see themselves in these characters.

    I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more from Christina Burns!

    I truly loved this book! The girls' unique personalities really shine in the writing, and the story brought me back to the friendships I had when I was younger. I appreciated that there were Black female role models throughout the story for the girls to look up to, and I loved getting to know the characters, their families, and their perspectives on life. Can't wait for the next book in the series!

    This is a sweet and funny middle grade book. My 10-year-old loved it, and we've passed it on to a friend. It's a nice balance of the everyday real anxieties and joys kids face. These characters feel like real people but they get to enjoy a bit of a fantasy plotline. And we love seeing more BIPOC protagonists! This is a warm and comforting story of friendship, and we can't wait to read more from this author!

    My kids and I love Bus Friends Forever. The characters are instantly likable, each with a different and unique personality. The story brings out your imagination and has a positive message.     I love this book! For starters, it feels authentic, like the kids are real, and I know them. I wish this book had been around when both my daughter and my son were around this age, because they would both have loved Bud Friends Forever!
