Juneteenth, which falls on June 19, marks the day in 1865 when a Union general arrived in Galveston, TX with the news that slavery was abolished. It was more than two years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. We spoke to Miss Juneteenth Kansas City about the historical importance of the day and what it means to her.
