We prefer to wash some items by hand. These meant having a place for them to drip dry (not time for hand drying!). So we ended up with one of those v-shaped wooden racks. And though it worked, it was ugly and took up a good deal of counter space. Not to mention that even with a mat underneath, water would drip on the counter. A: While the rods are reinforced with stainless steel and can hold up to 50lbs, most plates would slip between the rods unless they are laid flat. This is better suited towards a pot lid where the handle would prevent it slipping through.

Q: width/length fine but my sink is sunken i.e. raised faucet edge is 1.20" higher than opposite edge. would this angle mean the dishes would pitch out?

Yes, unfortunately it sounds like the drying rack would not be able to sit evenly due to the dimensions of your sink and that may cause dishes to slip out.
