Swoopy 1960s Hair Was Everywhere at the SAG Awards

Apparently, all the celebrity hairstylists were craving a blast from the past.

On Sunday, February 26, the 29th SAG Awards premiered. Among the stars awarded that night were Michelle Yeoh, Jennifer Coolidge, and Jessica Chastain for Actress in a Leading Role, Actress in a Drama Series, and Actress in a TV Movie or Limited Series, respectively. While we were excited about the awards, our beauty-buff eyes were glued to celebrities' hair, makeup, and nails to see what gorgeous moments they would bless us with — and our attention to detail was worth it, seeing as numerous celebrities donned the red carpet with swoopy, voluminous hairstyles reminiscent of the 1960s.

Several stars stepped on the red carpet with hair so bouncy you would have thought they were filming for a hair commercial. Whether their hair was swooped into high ponytails or left loose, these celebrities gave a perfect ode to the '60s with their looks. Here are our favorites from the night.

Abbott Elementary's Sheryl Lee Ralph has been blessing us with her talent since her early role as Deena Jones in the 80s Broadway musical Dreamgirls. It seems almost fitting that her SAG award look pays homage to the decade wherein the musical takes place. She stepped onto the SAG red carpet in a stunning sequined gown with her hair swept into a voluminous high ponytail. Her hair fell in bouncy curls around her collarbone area.

Jessica Chastain chose a more subtle nod to the '60s with a beehive bump that puts the 2000s poof to shame. Her hair was slicked back in the front to make the added volume at her crown fully visible.

Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried paired her '60s ponytail with a short green Prada dress. Her blonde hair was slicked back into a high updo with her hair curled at the ends for that '60s flipped effect. Despite the light curls, her hair was massive, and we surely need tips on how she kept that volume looking top-tier throughout the whole night.

Zendaya

At the start of February, Zendaya stepped into her bob era with a new shoulder-grazing cut, and we are so incredibly thankful because this might be the bob of all time. Her short hair was the star of the entire weekend, in fact, as she first showed it off with a voluminous blowout the day prior at the NAACP Image Awards. For the SAGs, however, she opted for even more volume and texture with big curls. Her short layers in the front were styled expertly to give her that swoop effect.

White Lotus's Jennifer Coolidge had one of the most classic takes on the 1960s hairstyle. Her blonde hair was curled and teased to perfection with a small beehive at the crown of her head. The front of her hair was sectioned off and a thick black headband was placed right behind.

Coolidge's White Lotus costar also took some hair tips from the 60s. Tabasco's short hair was curled with the very front styled into a swoop. Honestly, we hope she got a video of an amazing hair flip moment with this volume.

Clearly, 2023 is looking to be a good year for bob haircuts like the one Niecy Nash wore Sunday night. Her dark hair was styled with a simple side part, letting her big bouncy curls take center stage.

Aubrey Plaza

Last but certainly not least, Aubrey Plaza stunned on the carpet with a sequined brown gown with extreme cut-outs and her curled, shoulder-grazing bob. We were enamored with this glorious volume and lift.
