- Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2020I know a lot of people are using these for their children's lunches. I actually got it for myself and am very pleased. It is a good size for me since I don't eat a huge lunch. I typically pack around 500 calories. I follow a Keto diet and it allows me to bring a nice little variety. The picture was the first time I used it. Just for reference that was a 600 calorie lunch. 4 Slices of Salami, 4 Slices of Ham, 2 Hard boiled eggs, an ounce of cheddar cheese, a little over half an ounce of pecans, and some Parmesan crisps.
I had plenty of room for more of each item if I had wanted it. I pack my lunch at night and stick it in the refrigerator. The pecans and crisps stay nice and crispy. I pack pork rinds a lot too and they also stay crisp overnight in the refrigerator.
It is obviously not leak proof and it is not intended to be. I don't see that as a negative since I knew it buying it. I do plan on buying some dip containers to use with it.
It is obviously not microwave safe. So if I intend to take something that has to be heated I just put it on a paper plate and microwave it or I use a different container that day.
It is dishwasher safe and very easy to clean.
It is not insulated. It isn't going to keep your food hot or cold very long. It does just fine on my 20 minute commute and I put it in the refrigerator when I get to work. An insulated bag would be a must if you have to keep it out of the refrigerator.
It is pricey that is for sure. But it is well built and I think it will last a while. The lid is nice and secure.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2019I love and and my kids love it! They are in first and third grade and really love to see their food separated and nearly displayed. I haven’t had any trouble getting them to finish their lunches and having five compartments makes it fun to be creative in filling each section with something different instead of just throwing random things in random contains in their lunches, which is kind of what I normally do. This has made MAKING lunches less of a drudgery and more of a loving and creative outlet (like you ideally wish it could always be), and my kids definitely have taken notice. And they are loving it too.
As far as practicality, it’s perfect. It fits great inside our Costco lunchboxes still leaving room to spare. The kids have no trouble at all opening it. We’ve had no leaks, but I’m also aware that anything that could leak into the next compartment (i.e Berries, veggies, etc), I place into silicone muffin molds inside each compartment. That way any moisture or juice is contained.
These are easily washable, either dishwasher or by hand.
We are super stoked on this product and I really highly recommend it!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2016These are great! I ordered two of them ... The five section ones ... And I have been packing my work lunch in them every day since l received them. I have got SO many compliments on the boxes as well as the lunches l pack in them. It always turns out like a work of art! And I love that it is the PERFECT size for a filling lunch. Not too big and not too small. Just perfect. The lid seals really well but at the same time they are easy to take off. The boxes are SO easy clean - just throw in the dishwasher - top or bottom rack. I also purchased the little sealing dressing/dip containers. They are also awesome! I love all the different compartments in these five compartment bento boxes. It forces me to pack diverse lunches ... A little bit of this and a little bit of that. I love feeling creative every morning as l pack and healthy every afternoon as l eat. Thanks, LunchBots for an amazing product!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2015I don't mean to come off preachy but when there are complaints about what an item is not supposed to do anyway...I get quite frustrated. For example the Lunchbot description states this item is for dry foods but there are complaints that people's yogurt leaked. As my kids would say "No Duh" :). Anyway, that being said. ... We LOVE our lunch bots ...we have five( all Large). Two cinco two trio and one Duo. We purchased last August and used just about every day (four kids) during the school year. I have not used the smaller version but my boys are nine eight six and six and each box holds enough food for each boy to fill up at lunch. The boxes have not stained or rusted and ...true story... Their dad ran over a lunch box with one of these inside coming into the drive way and only dented the lid a small bit. Didn't affect closing divets or dividers. Still in use. :).
The dividers seem like they are stamped from sheet metal then bent and sautered to the interior...this leaves tiny open spaces at the corners of dividers. Goo WILL leak. When I put cantaloupe or watermelon in lunch I just line with a cupcake liner and that seems to contain what moisture there is. Our lunch bots go into lunch boxes that allow them to lie flat so leaking out of the Lunchbot and into a lunch box is a non issue for us. If yours will be vertical think closely about what you send for lunch. (We use eBags crew cooler junior...another great item for us ). If food is ever left in the space after dish washing a quick push with a toothpick takes care of it, my kids have left these at school on a Friday and you can imagine the science experiment that comes home to me on a Monday afternoon....even THAT washes clean.
I make lunch at 6 AM ... Even with a good hot cup of coffee making lunch can be rough ...the lunch bots help me along in that if there is an empty spot I know there needs to be more food. I can also see ALL the food I am packing at a glance so I don't end up with five fruits and no " meal" or three different kinds of crackers. These Are Not Thermal. Food will be room temp by lunchtime. Please note if you put hot food next to a cold food the stainless steel will transfer heat and " cook" whatever is next to it ...just let hot food come to room temp before packing
If you are looking for something to toss in a tote bag instead of a lunch box...then I wouldn't pack anything other than non gooey sandwiches ...nuts...granola...apples...you get the idea. The edges are not completely sealed when closed ( like with Lock and Lock) and some foods could seep onto belongings when bounced around or turned on side.
My kids have no issues opening or closing lids...all,though the nine year old refuses to use the Cinco as he thinks it looks like a "baby tray". When they hit middle school boys may need two of these especially if into athletics... But the good thing is they don't look juvenile so these boxes will transition to older grades. No need to toss into a yard sale with the Spongebob Funtainer :) all though the name Lunchbot is stamped on the lid which I suppose could be cause for snarky lunchroom comments when kids are older ;). Who knows ???
In summary ...assess your needs and check the size closely before ordering... If it fits your needs then I think you will be very happy with quality. My only issue is a twenty percent price increase in a year seems steep but as we are moving into second year with them ...price averages out in long run. This year we have a fifth child to pack lunch for so I will be ordering a sixth to ensure we always have enough on hand. No landfill. No plastic touching food...no need to hand wash !!!!!!!!! And once kids have moved on I suppose you could use them to store screws or buttons or whatever tiny things are in the junk drawer :)
This is one of those love-hate items. Works for us so we LOVE it :) but it's not for everyone. It's just one of those things you need to overthink for a day before you commit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Richtig gut
ABSOLUT TOLL. Kann ich nur empfehlen.
Vielen Dank für das Lesen meiner Rezension. Ich hoffe, sie ist nützlich. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars High quality steel bento
My kids love these things. The miraculous thing is that they actually want to eat healthier, more colourful food just because it's so nicely arranged in these boxes. My 3 year old loves to help pack his own box and select this own food. It's not leakproof, but I cannot see how it could be and still be as versatile, durable, and easy to clean. This thing is awfully expensive, but it's worth the money. Very solid. Not flimsy at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars This will outlast me and my children
My son has used this for 3 years. Now my other son is starting in school, and he's getting one as well. Because this thing right here - well - let's just say that I think they'll be the longest lasting object in their school bags. No moving parts, just solid steel. The compartments are welded in. And knowing that it's new 18/8 steel, I can place their food right on the surface with no paper in between. No plastics. And the lids fits exactly on there with precision. It has never fallen off by itself. My 5-year old can open it easily. It cannot handle wet food, but I don't pack wet food anyway. With kids, the fever lids to open and things to unwrap, the better. They just open one lid and everything is right there. The only thing that can destroy this thing is if you take a hammer to it and dent it. My son has a small dent in his, maybe from hitting his schoolbag against something. I expect that he'll still have this when he grows up, and it'll be all dented and scratched up, and I love that. I only wish the logo was smaller or not even there or more timeless looking. I engraved their names and phone numbers in the cases and lids so they'll never get lost at school. So, haha, as you can tell, yes I like this product and would recommend anyone to invest in it. I met a mum in a store who said she was shopping for her son's third lunch box. Plastic of course. Well, just start out right and save money. Look no further. Oh, and we also have the Eco Lunch Box that has a not-so-fitting lid and moving parts. Harder for kids to open. This Lunch Bots is better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this brand. It dries quickly in the dishwasher or when rinsed in hot water.
I have another Lunchbots box. I chose it for the bigger size and because it's an environmentally and conser friendly product. Simple & functional. Thumbs up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Only lunchbox your kids need
Don't use plastic just get this! My daughter has used hers for 5+ years and it's still in great shape, goes into dishwasher 5 days a week; only thing don't put sliced oranges or any juicy fruit in it, as the dividers so have very small edges that aren't welded between each section so it leaks thru.we are talking soggy sandwich bun next to the oranges compartment. Otherwise it's fantastic. I use silicone cupcake holders inside the large sections to further divide lunch items for the picky kids who don't like things "touching".
