Do they, you know … share Spotify listening habits with the residents of Burlington, Berkeley, or Cambridge? If you’re queer, the answer is most likely yes.
The cruel annual psychological evaluation otherwise known as Spotify Wrapped dropped today, utilizing data to give the music streaming app’s loyal users a recap of their 2023 habits and assure them that listening to over 50,000 minutes of music within one calendar year is totally normal and chill, actually.
This year, Spotify introduced some new features to Wrapped. One of them assigns you a “sound town,” or a city that has the most similar taste to yours based on what you streamed in 2023. However, according to social media, queer Spotify users seem to be getting overwhelmingly assigned to one of three U.S. cities: Berkeley, California; Burlington, Vermont; or Cambridge, Massachusetts. Naturally, said users flocked to X en masse to joke about this newfound gay music Bermuda triangle.
As one user put it: “Spotify is trying to make a gay commune in Berkeley, a lesbian commune in Burlington, and a bisexual commune in Cambridge.”

Sadly, Spotify hasn’t released data about the top “sound towns” in the world. But when it comes to queer listening habits, it seems we have our (very online) new zip codes.
In good news for Gaylors as well as the general population, I guess, Taylor Swift topped this year’s Spotify Wrapped as the most-streamed artist globally. Pansexual pop star Miley Cyrus’ song “Flowers” was the most-streamed song globally, and the third-most-streamed song in the U.S. Meanwhile, “Boy’s a liar Pt. 2,” Ice Spice’s collaboration with PinkPantheress, reached No. 5 on Spotify’s list of the most-streamed songs in the U.S.
Now, if you need me, I’ll be campaigning for next year’s Coachella to be relocated to Burlington, Vermont as soon as possible.
