Emily Blunt's stylist is unveiling the inspiration behind the actress's decision to wear "floating shoulders" to the 2024 Oscars.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Blunt's stylist, Jessica Paster, explained that Blunt's choice of attire was finalized early on Sunday morning after she narrowed down her outfit options to three final looks. Paster elaborated, "I think when you decide what you want to wear, I think something happens. It depends on your mood. One was colorful, one was diaphanous, one was white."

Paster added that she and Blunt, 41, anticipated people would discuss the dress they chose — a beaded champagne-colored Schiaparelli gown — especially the floating shoulders, which Paster believes we will see more of in the future.

“Sometimes we don't play it safe. At this point of years of being with Emily, we can go have fun with fashion,” she added. “Did I know that people were going to talk about the shoulder? Absolutely. Do I care what anybody else has to say? Absolutely not. Me? I think that people that know fashion, like fashion, like things that are interesting, were going to like it and I know the people that like some things that are very classic were not going to like it. At the end of the day, she looked absolutely beautiful. It was such a beautiful dress.”

Paster added in the interview how during the carpet she was shocked to see Florence Pugh, who stars in Oppenheimer with Blunt, rocking a similar elevated shoulder look. She explained, "I thought [Blunt] was gonna be the first one to wear it … and then I saw that the beautiful Florence Pugh also had a very similar shoulder."

She also clarified that while people were theorizing about the significance of the dress, there wasn't much meaning behind it.

“People are reading into it too much,” she said. “I'm sorry. I pick a beautiful dress because it's a beautiful dress. Trust me, there's nothing about this dress that says Oppenheimer. For me, this was a dress for a beautiful, gorgeous Oscar nominee, winner, and that's why I love this dress.”

As far as Blunt's opinion of the dress, Paster says she loved it. “This is the one that spoke to her,” Paster added. Along with the dress, Blunt also wore Tiffany & Co. jewels.

On the red carpet, Blunt also shared a romantic date night with her husband husband John Krasinski, who kept it classic in an all-white suit with a white bow tie. He also amped up his outfit with Tiffany & Co. jewels and finished with black dress shoes.
