EW's editorial guidelines Published on April 11, 2024 09:00AM EDT "Do you believe the best foundation for love is friendship?" So asks Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) of his mother, Violet (Ruth Gemmell), in the first trailer for Bridgerton season 3, which dropped Thursday. Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton on 'Bridgerton'. Liam Daniel/Netflix If your answer to his question is yes, you're going to love the friends to lovers arc of the Netflix series' third season, which will center its story on longtime pals Colin and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). When Penelope gives herself a makeover with the intention of winning a husband, Colin finally notices how beautiful his best friend is — and promptly agrees to help her in her quest by teaching her how to catch a handsome gentleman. The trailer showcases some of these lessons, including Penelope's very awkward attempt at flirting by discussing the weather and fluttering a fan. It also gives fans a glimpse at other major moments (and changes!) in the season, including Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and her shocking new friendship with Cressida Cowper (Jessica Madsen). And what's this? Penelope has a new suitor, one Lord Debling (Sam Phillips), who dances with her and tells her she looks "especially beautiful." But have Colin's husband-hunting lessons taken too well? Because he seems to be looking at Penelope in a new light and asking his mother, who urges him to follow his heart, questions about the best foundation for love. Plenty of other fan favorites are back in the trailer, including Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and his new wife, Kate (Simone Ashley), as well as Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) and her royal highness herself, Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel). Is it our minds or our hearts?" Season 3 of Bridgerton will air in two parts, with part 1 hitting Netflix on May 13 and part 2 following a month later on June 13.
