That delicious bite of uncertainty makes Ricki and Ezra’s final chapters so much sweeter.”―New York Times
“[Seven Days in June is] filled with important observations and tidbits about Black life, giving the reader something that goes a step beyond the basic rom-com format.”
―USA Today“While this is a sumptuous, fun, romantic story about two authors who reunite at a conference, it's also an ode to anyone who goes through life wishing they were more normal.”

- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2024It’s been a while since I e had a book that has kept me up at night. Where, even though I’ve been awake since 4am, I’m still up at 10pm because “just 1 more chapter” became 3.
Ricki (Richard the 2nd) is the youngest daughter of the Wilde family of Buckhead Atlanta. They have MONEY and there are certain expectations for how she and her 3 older sisters should behave. Ricki is not capable of staying within the confines and wants nothing more than to break out. So, when she has the opportunity to start her own business in Harlem she takes it.
Ezra is a musician. A pianist by trade, he loves everything related to sound. He especially loves how his worries and sorrows disappear as soon as he starts playing. He’s from South Carolina but makes his up to Harlem when his cousin convinces him to try and create a career for himself. He’s at the top when tragedy strikes and he’s forced to relive his mistakes every February of a leap year.
Ricki and Ezra are destined to meet. But their meeting creates ripples that they can’t figure out how to stop. Ricki is just getting her flower business off the ground and Ezra is coming to grips that he finally found his person. The question is whether or not they’ll be able to keep each other.
There are a lovely cast of characters surrounding them but I think the most important are: Ricki’s new best friend Tuesday (a beloved child star now all grown up); and Ms Della who is equal parts Ricki’s surrogate grandmother and angel.
The connection between Ricki and Ezra is off the charts and, as such, when they decide to have sex it’s electric. You can feel the heat coming through the page. It’s equal parts passionate, desperate and loving.
I’m not giving away any spoilers but there were many times where I was in tears. Ms Williams writing is lovely and wraps you into the story. It was also great to see characters from other books make an appearance. Those Easter eggs are always fun.
Anywho, read this book immediately. I had it in my queue for months. I must have known it was going go gut me so reading it in December feels appropriate.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 30, 2024A majority of the book takes place in Harlem and honors Harlem's history through imagery and cultural references. There really is a feeling that Ricki and Ezra are destined to be together because their journey is one for the ages.
There are a few things that could have been done differently or explained. At one point, Ricki says that she was sheltered when in all practicality, she was privileged. Only a privileged person could get out of the situations that she put herself in, such as her study abroad incident, without any major repercussions. Also, Ricki's confrontation with her family would've been more meaningful if it had been with her parents in addition to or instead of her sisters because her parents are the ones who set out the heavy expectations for all of their kids.
With Ezra, the way that the twist was handled didn't quite make sense. Without completely giving away the twist, it doesn't seem plausible that Ezra is a part of this larger group that has the same problem and no one in the larger group ever figured out how to resolve the problem until Ricki and Ezra. It seems like Ezra only ever tried one way to solve the problem without searching for other solutions even though he knew of the other issue that his problem would create.
However, this book is worth reading because the love story, twists, imagery, and nods to history outweigh the things that could've been explained or done differently.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2025A Song for Ricki Wilde is a beautifully woven tale of love, self-discovery, and the magic of unexpected connections. This novel sweeps you into a world where fate and music intertwine, bringing to life characters that feel as real as old friends.
Ricki Wilde is a heroine you can’t help but root for—bold, passionate, and searching for something more than what life has handed her. When she steps into a new world filled with history, heartache, and healing, her journey becomes as mesmerizing as a well-composed melody. The romance in this story is tender yet powerful, building with the kind of slow-burn tension that makes you savor every moment.
With lyrical prose and an atmosphere that lingers long after you’ve turned the last page, this book is a love letter to those who dare to dream beyond their circumstances. It’s heartfelt, enchanting, and utterly unforgettable—a song worth listening to over and over again.

Ricki has always been a mystery to her rich and powerful Atlanta family. When a patron at the family's funeral company offers her the dream of opening a flower shop in Harlem, she leaps at the chance. There, she meets enigmatic Ezra, who knocks her world off balance.
There's so much I want to say about this gorgeous story, but I'm mindful of spoilers, so here's what I can say. It's a book about fated soulmates and is one of those stories with several twists and turns. Though I guessed a few early on, it was so beautifully written that I didn't care. I loved Ricki immediately. She was so vibrant, kind, and absolutely hilarious. Alongside her POV, there are several others interspersed. My heart absolutely broke for all of the characters at one point or another, but especially Ezra, Ricki, and Breeze. Breeze's story was so bittersweet, but his empathy always shone through. Alongside the evocative descriptions of the 1920s Harlem Renaissance, my favourite parts were those where real-life musical icons were interwoven throughout Breeze's life. Chapter 19's title was perfect because it was EXACTLY what came to my mind reading about all of his encounters. I also appreciated the commentary on the repetitive nature of style as well as 'causes', and frustratingly, the lack of actual progress.
Della’s storyline was woven perfectly, and though bittersweet, it offered many memorable moments. There was also so much warmth and humour. I cackled at the Bottomless Brunch, and I loved the way Tuesday and Nikki met. Tuesday's investigative shenanigans and corresponding outfits were also hilarious. But this was ultimately a story about Nikki and Ezra. Their connection was palpable throughout the story, and I loved their gentle teasing, as well as their genuine love for each other. And that epilogue? Perfection.
An evocative story of love against all odds. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!
Tia Williams has pulled it out the bag again!
This was a stunning love story, mixed with magical realism, friendship, passion, self discovery and acceptance.
I loved how it was set in Harlem, I got such a feel for how it was back in the 1920s. Such richness and diversity. I love so much about the whole story in general.
Ricki is wonderful, she's funny, sassy and stays true to herself despite the constant knocks from her family. Her creativity is awe inspiring opening her flower shop.
Ezra is a true gentlemen and they aren't made like him anymore! He was so chivalrous and adored Ricki. His life story was so detailed. I enjoyed hearing all about the different eras of music.
I was sucked in and absorbed every step of the way!
Ms Della I adored and wanted her to be my nanna! Tuesday was hilarious and such a great friend to Ricki.
As usual banter was on point and i flew through this book in just a few hours.
Only thing stopping me from giving it a 5 is it was a tad predictable in places, other than that it's another masterpiece !
